AdSense Payment Methods — Check, EFT, and What to Actually Expect

Once you've crossed the payment threshold and your tax information is in order, Google has a few ways it can get money to you. Which one applies depends on where you live, and understanding the options before your first payment is due saves frustration later.

Electronic Funds Transfer — the cleanest option

EFT is available in a specific list of countries where Google has banking relationships that support direct deposit. If you're in one of them, the money lands in your bank account in your local currency without you having to do anything beyond the one-time setup.

The setup requires linking your bank account in your AdSense payment settings, after which Google makes a small test deposit and asks you to confirm the amount. This verification step (covered separately in the PIN discussion) usually takes a few days from initiation to confirmation. Once done, all future payments go directly to the same account automatically.

This is the option I'd set up first if it's available to you. Direct deposit is reliable, leaves a clean paper trail, and removes the physical mail lag of check payments.

Mailed check — standard delivery

For publishers in countries where EFT isn't supported, or for those who prefer physical payment, Google mails a check in your local currency. The check is mailed after you reach the payment threshold at the end of your payment month. Standard delivery has no additional charge but the timeline is what standard postal delivery dictates in your region.

Setting it up is a two-step process in your account: select the check payment radio button under Payment Details, then choose your currency (local currency if available, or US dollars if not). Save the settings and you're set.

Express delivery — when timing matters

If you need payments faster than standard post allows, Google offers a Secured Express Delivery option for check payments. There's a fee for this service, and it requires a bit of prep: you need to verify that DHL (the courier Google uses for this) delivers to your specific address before selecting it. Contact DHL directly to confirm coverage in your area and that your address format is compatible.

Express delivery is useful if you're in a region with unreliable postal service, or if cash flow timing matters enough that the courier fee is worth it.

What I'd skip

I'd skip the express delivery upgrade until you have reason to need it. Standard checks for most publishers in covered regions arrive within a reasonable timeframe, and the fee compounds over many payments. Set up EFT if it's available in your country — that's the baseline solution that makes the express option unnecessary for most people.

I'd also skip changing payment settings mid-cycle right before a payment is due. Make payment method changes at the start of a new payment period to avoid any administrative delays.

**Bottom line:** EFT is the simplest and most efficient AdSense payment option if you're in a supported country. Mailed check works fine everywhere else, with express delivery available if timing is a concern. Set it up once during initial account configuration and it runs automatically from there.
